Shaft shoulder

Close-up side-view mechanical illustration of a stepped cylindrical metal shaft with two coaxial sections of different diameters joined by an abrupt diameter change, forming a shaft shoulder. One section steps to a larger or smaller adjoining journal, creating a flat annular shoulder face perpendicular to the shaft axis that serves as an axial locating surface for seated components. The transition is shown as a sharp square corner or with a very small fillet at the root. Surfaces are smooth, machined, and metallic steel-gray or silver-gray, with crisp concentric geometry between the two diameters.
