Mylohyoid muscle

Broad, thin, flat paired suprahyoid skeletal muscle forming the muscular floor of the mouth as a shallow sling or diaphragm. Each right and left half is fan-shaped to triangular, pink-red to reddish-pink, with a shallow triangular-to-quadrilateral outline, widest posteriorly and narrowing toward the attachment line. Fine parallel to subtly transverse fiber striations radiate obliquely and medially from the lateral bony attachment line toward a central midline raphe and lower border. The two halves meet at a central seam to create a broad triangular muscular plate with a gently sloping, slightly curved superior surface, smooth overall texture, and a thin tapered or straight free margin, appearing more like a thin muscular membrane than a rounded muscle belly.
