Hormone receptor complex

A compact bound hormone–receptor complex consisting of a small lipophilic steroid-like hormone molecule snugly docked within a central binding pocket of a larger globular receptor protein. The hormone appears as a smooth yellow, gold, or yellow-orange ligand with a four-fused-ring steroid shape, while the receptor is a folded blue or purple protein with distinct lobes surrounding the ligand to form a single integrated unit. The ligand and receptor are shown in contrasting colors to emphasize the two-part structure and tight fit within the binding cavity.
