Depletion zone

A narrow vertical band centered at a p-n semiconductor junction, shown as a pale or lightly shaded central strip between the p-type and n-type regions. The band appears mostly empty of mobile charge carriers, creating a clear charge-depleted region with distinct left and right boundaries. Small fixed ion symbols are visible along the edges of the band, with negative acceptor ions on the p-side edge and positive donor ions on the n-side edge. The surrounding materials may be differentiated, such as pink p-type material on one side and blue n-type material on the other, while the depletion zone remains visually distinct as a light beige or light gray strip.
