Millikan oil drop apparatus

Textbook-style schematic of the Millikan oil-drop apparatus in cross section, showing a compact box-like observation chamber with side insulating walls and two parallel horizontal metal plates inside. The upper plate has a small hole for entry of oil drops from a short atomizer or oil spray nozzle above. A tiny oil droplet is suspended in the space between the plates. A battery is connected to the plates by black wires through a simple switch to control the electric field. A small viewing microscope is aimed at the observation chamber from the side, and the chamber may be labeled C. Clean black outlines with simple metallic gray plates and a rectangular battery.
