Depletion region tapered

Flat 2D device cross-section of a semiconductor depletion region shown as a pale lightly shaded zone with smooth curved, lens-shaped, wedge-shaped, or tapered boundaries adjacent to a junction. The region appears as a narrow elongated band intruding into darker doped semiconductor material, sometimes wider on one side and narrowing away. It is filled with pale gray, cream, off-white, pale yellow, or light orange shading, with an empty charge-depleted appearance and very few or no mobile carriers shown. Boundaries are clearly defined, clearly distinguishing it from the surrounding substrate.
