Schottky barrier diode cross section

2D cross-sectional diagram of a Schottky-barrier diode showing a rectangular n-type semiconductor body, such as light gray or pale blue n-type gallium arsenide, on a substrate. A flat metal anode pad sits on the top surface, forming the rectifying metal-semiconductor junction, with a depletion region directly beneath the interface. A separate cathode metal contact connects through a darker heavily doped n+ region to provide an ohmic contact. The structure is planar and layered, with metallic gray contacts and clearly differentiated semiconductor regions.
