Gate oxide

Cross-sectional view of a MOS or MOSFET structure showing the gate oxide as an extremely thin, uniform insulating layer directly beneath the gate electrode and above the active silicon or semiconductor surface or channel. Depict it as a very narrow horizontal strip with a flat rectangular profile, smooth surface, crisp straight parallel edges, and even thickness, much thinner than all surrounding device features. It should clearly separate the gate conductor from the semiconductor and be rendered in a pale light color such as pale gray, off-white, light blue, pale cream, light cyan, or slightly translucent.
