Twisted nematic liquid crystal display

Flat 2D cross-sectional diagram of a thin rectangular twisted-nematic liquid crystal display panel with a layered structure: two transparent plates enclosing a thin central liquid-crystal layer, polarizer layers at the front and back oriented crosswise, and a reflective back layer. Within the liquid crystal region, elongated rod-like molecules are shown rotating gradually through a 90-degree twist from one surface to the other. The panel appears neat and rectangular, with a clean schematic presentation and subtle suggestion of pixel grid organization.
