Temporal bone

Isolated temporal bone removed from the skull, shown as a single irregular paired cranial bone in pale ivory to off-white. The bone has a broad thin squamous plate superiorly, a forward-projecting zygomatic process anteriorly, a dense petrous pyramidal portion on the inferior skull-base side, a prominent rough mastoid region posteriorly, and a small slender styloid process projecting inferiorly. Include the ear-region and articular features such as the external acoustic canal or tympanic attachment area, mandibular fossa with articular tubercle, multiple foramina and canal-like openings, subtle ridges, grooves, rough attachment surfaces, and complex curved asymmetrical contours of the lateral wall and base of the skull. Smooth cortical bone texture overall.
