First rib

A short, broad, strongly curved human first rib in pale ivory to off-white bone color, shown as a compact flattened C-shaped rib that is wider, shorter, and more horizontal in appearance than typical ribs. The bone is flattened from above downward with a smooth superior surface and stout shaft. The posterior end is thick and stout, bearing a single rounded head, a narrow neck, and a distinct tubercle, while the anterior end is smaller and thinner for attachment to costal cartilage. The superior surface shows two shallow longitudinal grooves separated by a raised scalene tubercle.
