Manubrium

The manubrium of the sternum shown as a broad, flat superior sternum segment in pale ivory to beige bone color, shield-like to roughly trapezoidal or quadrilateral in shape and wider superiorly than inferiorly. It has a smooth cortical surface with a gently convex central face, a central jugular notch along the top border, and clavicular notches or articular facets at the upper lateral corners. The lateral edges may also show subtle rib attachment notches, and the inferior border forms the junction with the sternal body at the sternal angle. Overall it is shorter and wider than the body of the sternum.
