Tibial nerve

A moderately thick pale yellow peripheral nerve representing the tibial nerve, shown as the larger terminal branch and main continuation of the sciatic nerve through the posterior leg. It appears as a long, straight to gently curved, vertically descending cord-like trunk with a smooth outer sheath, rounded to slightly flattened cylindrical form, subtle longitudinal fascicular striations, and a soft sheen. The main trunk is broader than nearby smaller nerves, slightly narrower than the sciatic nerve but thicker than the common fibular nerve, with gentle tapering distally and a few smaller side branches or terminal bifurcating plantar branches arising at acute angles near the lower leg, medial ankle, and foot in standard anatomical style.
