Typical human thoracic vertebra shown in an oblique anatomical view as a light beige to ivory off-white bone. It has a medium-sized heart-shaped vertebral body, a relatively small circular vertebral foramen, and a compact sturdy vertebral arch. Laterally projecting transverse processes are present, along with paired articular facets and distinct costal facets on the sides of the vertebral body and on the transverse processes for rib articulation. The spinous process is long, slender, and angled inferiorly downward, giving the vertebra a slimmer profile than a lumbar vertebra.
