Superior mesenteric artery

An anatomical medical diagram of the superior mesenteric artery as a single prominent unpaired red abdominal artery arising from the anterior surface of the abdominal aorta. The vessel descends obliquely inferiorly or nearly vertically with a slight forward curve as a smooth, moderately thick cylindrical muscular trunk, thicker than its branches. Multiple tapering intestinal side branches emerge from one side with rounded branching points, radiating in a fan-like or tree-like arc downward and laterally; a notable ileocolic branch may be included among them. Clean anatomical styling with the superior mesenteric artery shown as a major abdominal branch vessel.
